Engage Shields!

by wjw on August 15, 2007

A microwave-generated plasma shield has been granted a patent.

Applications for the “pseudo surface microwave produced plasma shielding system” supposedly include “a stealth system from RADAR and SONAR, a protection system from WMD, and a weapon system to generate and launch plasmoids as a plasma gun.”

Here’s a useful little article on how it’s supposed to work.

Pretty amazing, combine this technology with the army’s development of the future force solider (http://science.howstuffworks.com/ffw.htm) and you’ve got a soldier built more like a an impenetrable walking tank than a person. And if this sort of thing could be built on a large enough scale to be employed to protect whole cities, it’d provide greater protection against ICBs than anything currently being employed anywhere in the world.
