Another Ringing Endorsement

I don’t say this lightly: This is Not a Game by Walter Jon Williams is one of the best novels I’ve read recently.

Dru June 24, 2009 at 5:39 pm: I bought it Friday, i cracked it open Tuesday at 2 PM, I finished it at 7 AM this morning (sleep in between).

It strikes me that it shares some obvious similarities or resonances with Charles Stross's Halting State (a character named Charlie, the "game world intersecting real world financially" angle, and even the title phrase). Plate-o-shrimp or deliberate?

Charlie Stross and I had some email correspondence when we figured out we were both working on gaming novels, but we figured we were safe since mine was about ARGs and his was about MMORPGs.
