History Channel

What the hell happened to the History Channel? It’s all Pawn Stars, Tougher in Alaska, American Pickers, Ax Men . . . all reality TV!

Where’s my freakin’ history?

I guess it went to the same place as all the learning on the Learning Channel.

Or to the same place as the scifi on the Syfy Channel.

The only things I watch on History now are The Universe and How the Earth Was Made. Some of those have been pretty cool. But the current sorry state of affairs is enough to make me pine for the early days of the Hitler–oops, I mean, the History Channel.

Where's my freakin' history?

Maybe the staff of the History Channel finally covered every last battle, maneuver, engagement, fire-fight, and bar-brawl of the entire Second World War.

History is written by the winners.

They're still The All Hitler, All the Time channel in Israel. there are so many interesting bits of history I'd like to know about… The middle ages, pre-columbian America, the history of Africa, Europe in the middle ages, eastern Europe in the 19th century, especially the Russian conquest of the Caucasus, the Greek war of independence, the Crimean war, the Japanese-Russian war of 1905… the list goes on and on. But, for obvious reasons, they seem to mostly ignore history that has no stock footage associated with it.

Grosberg: Although they really work that "pan and zoom a still image" thing.

Don't look to the BBC for interesting documetaries. The Murdoch Empire has been complaining that the Beeb represents 'unfair competition' and the Beeb appears to be caving in under the pressure and is planning to cut certain radio programmes and to reduce the size of their website. What's the betting that this is just the start? It won't be long until documentaries (of any type) and world-class drama etc. are replaced by wall-to-wall reality drivel with a light sprinkling of right wing propaganda.

Reality TV might actually be an improvement for the History Channel. When it's not that, it's wall-to-wall 2012, Nostradamus, Disaster Porn and Templar/Freemasons.
