A Social History of British Dentistry . . .

. . . circa 1964.

As my late friend Dick Patten once remarked, “They look like their mothers made them wash.”

I’m old enough (and British enough) to remember the Kinks when they first appeared on the scene. I assume that the clip is from the BBC’s ‘Top of the Pops’? Even though I had little interest in pop music then (and none at all now!) those ‘hits of the 60s’ are deeply etched on my psyche. Even so, 1964 was so long ago (and so much has happened since – as it has to everyone of my advanced age) that I have only a dim memory of what 1964 was like.

Wow, that makes me feel old.

This is from an American pop show called “Shindig.” The other one was called “Hullabaloo.”

I am far too young to actually know this, however.
