Got It In One

by wjw on July 11, 2012

It took about ten seconds for John MacMichael to guess the answer to my last quiz.

Yes, I was in Seattle.  I was there for my agent’s annual retreat, and I caught the Tutankhamun exhibit while I was there.

The exhibit was full of lovely stuff, but I was annoyed at the misleading advertising, which makes use of Tut’s golden sarcophagus.  Tut’s golden sarcophagus isn’t actually in the exhibit.  Nor were any of his other sarcophagi.  Nor was Tut himself.

There was one golden mask, the one in my last post, but that was of another pharaoh altogether.

The exhibit really ought to have been called Lots of Tut’s Stuff, Plus Some Other Stuff.

Not that it wasn’t impressive.  The jewelry was lovely, the statues commanded awe and wonder, and there were some fine human-scaled objects to show the Egyptians’ more homely side (a game board, a sarcophagus for a cat, a small statue of an official with his children).  One of the most impressive objects on display was Tut’s bed— wickerwork over four thousand years old.

On Sunday, Nancy and Jack arranged for a trip on Ted’s sailboat, so I got to do some small-boat for the first time in what was probably a couple decades.  Puget Sound was welcoming and sunny, with enough breeze to send the boat skimming along, but not so much we had to spend all our time worrying about the wind.

Apparently I brought New Mexico’s warm weather with me.  Seattle’s long winter seems to be finally over.

Oh— and maybe I should try a quiz that’s a little more challenging.  I’m thinking of a number between 1 and 3, 275,364.  What is it?

Over on my side of Washington State (eastern WA), it’s been around 100F all week. So please feel free to take the warm weather back with you to New Mexico.

I was able to guess your location so quickly not because I have amazing psychic powers or a genius level IQ (alas) but because the image of the golden mask you used is the same one they are using to advertise the exhibit here in Portland. It was rather like Bilbo realizing the right answer to one of Gollum’s riddles was “Fish” because one jumped out of Gollum’s dark pool onto his furry feet.

Glad you were able to do some sailing on Puget Sound; it is a lovely place to do that.
