This. Not to Mention That.

The first weekend of May I’ll be in Jacksonville, Fla., where I’m a guest at the Sci-Fi Weekend being held at the Museum of Science and History.  Looking at the schedule, I see they’re charging folks $10 to come to my programming event.  Guess I’ll find out who my real fans are.

They haven’t thrown an SF convention before, which kind of shows, but it’ll be fun anyway, because it’ll be full of the sort of people I like to hang out with.  And I’ll be available all weekend to meet anyone who doesn’t want to pay the extra ten bucks.

Elsewhere in the news, I’ve signed a deal with Baen Books to make my self-published ebooks available on their site.  This is potentially a brand-new audience for me, so Yay.  The books will be showing up fairly soon, so I’ll let y’all know when it happens.

And of course I’m always asked when I’ll have something new appear, and I can rarely answer, because though I’m writing and selling all the time, it’s not like they tell me when things are going to appear.  But now I can report that I’ve sold a story to Dead Man’s Hand, a Weird West anthology edited by John Joseph Adams.

Which will be out in May 2014.   So there’s one definite date for you.

I’ve never written a Weird Western before, and probably never will again, but I will report that the story was immense fun, and that I’ve been reading it here and there and people tend to laugh when I do it.  With me, I trust, not at me.

The story is called “The Golden Age,” and features the superheroes of the California Gold Rush.  Ky-yeee!

I hope the Baen deal brings you more well-deserved readers!

You’re the third or fourth author that I follow who’s going to be in that collection, so even though “weird western” isn’t at the top of my sub-genre loves, I’ll definitely be buying a copy.

Unfortunately, the editor’s website doesn’t have an “email me when it’s available” button, and Amazon doesn’t list it.

May I ask a favor – that you spam the heck out of us (or, you know, at least blog about it once or twice) when it’s on store shelves?

Thanks!

Oh, I always announce publication here, at least when the publishers bother to tell me. They don’t always.

You don’t count your story about German Freddie at the OK Corral as a weird western?

I consider it alternate history. There’s nothing particularly weird about it other than the premise.
