Tesla Gets Heavy

by wjw on February 6, 2018

I watched live this afternoon as SpaceX launched the Falcon Heavy, featuring 28 rockets strapped together, the payload of a Tesla roadster complete with a Star Man, and the words “DON’T PANIC” in large, friendly letters right on the dash.  (Really appreciated that last bit.)

The videography is pretty amazing, because they just stuck cameras all over that sucker.

I think the sight of the two strap-on boosters coming to a simultaneous landing at Canaveral AFB caused a synapse crash.  I had to watch it over and over.

Here’s the live video. The action starts at about 8:30.  I advise going to full-screen.

Yeah…seeing those boosters landing within 5 seconds and five hundred feet of each other definitely wins the Gerry Anderson Welcome to the Future Award.

And, apparently, the Starman is loaded up with the Foundation Trilogy, a towel, and Hitchhikers’ Guide.

though by the time the Arch storage unit has gone through the van Allen belt, it’ll probably have morphed into the Loc-Nar.

It would be a whole lot nicer if Mr. “Real Life Ironman” started paying his engineers and stopped busting unions, but hey, space rockets and nerd references!

(It’d be cool if nerds acknowledged a century of government-funded R&D he and the likes of him parasitize.)

Yep, Musk is yet another billionaire with progressive politics who opposes unions and oppresses workers.

Just as Steve Jobs was an enlightened Buddhist sage whose workers regularly committed suicide out of despair. If only they were as enlightened as he!

Yeah, having union workers sabotaging engines because “we demand ten cents more per hour to pay our Mafia overlords in tribute!” would definitely be a good thing! How dare Elon hire people at market wages to do really cool stuff that they love doing!

How dare workers complain when they’re forced to work mandatory overtime!

How dare mere blue-collar drudges speak out when exhausted workers are injured in accidents!

They should be proud to sacrifice their health and well-being so that the boss can make it to Mars on time!
