Electric Boogaloo

I had all sorts of pleasant things to post here, about the Colorado trip and some other things, but then my electric fixtures began to act up, and it’s using up all my energy.

The day after the return from our trip, the air conditioner died, and will need to be replaced. Unfortunately it will take two weeks for all the parts to arrive, during which time we’re subjected to 90+ degree heat. The contractor has loaned us a couple of portable AC units, one of which is adequate for the space it’s in, and another which is not. We get very hot afternoons in the living/dining/kitchen area.

After which the washing machine stopped in the middle of its cycle. Fortunately the cause was a tripped breaker, which I was able to reset. The washing machine hasn’t tripped a breaker before or since, so I have to wonder what’s afoot.

And then the refrigerator/freezer died, requiring some emergency transfers of perishables to the freezer in the garage (which was already pretty full), and to coolers filled with ice.

I managed to get the refrigerator running again, so now it seems to be nominal, and things that should be cold are cold and things that should be frozen are frozen. But the stuff in the garage freezers is going to stay there until I can assure myself that this won’t happen again.

Apparently the Electron Pixies are dancing the Electric Boogaloo in my wiring. Does anyone know a good banishing spell?

If you’ve been having close lightning strikes, perhaps a whole-house surge protector? Won’t fix anything that’s already fried, but should work in future. (Speaking from personal experience after some medium-sized electronics decided to die, seriatim, not too long after a monster T-storm; we got an electrician out before anything really expensive decided to go.)

Well, I’ve always heard that bad things happen in threes, so your streak of calamities may be over. Fingers crossed for you that it’s done.
