No Turkey Here

Here in the States we’re about to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday, which was established by Abraham Lincoln as a day of fasting, repentance, and prayer, and is now celebrated as a day of feasting and football.  (The repentance comes the day after.)

Unfortunately I can’t invite you all to the house to enjoy my Seriously Deadly Stuffing Recipe, so I’m doing the next best thing— I’m putting one of my historical novels on sale for 99 cents, so that you can better enjoy the holiday in its historical context.

I did indeed begin my career with Privateers & Gentlemen, a series of sea-adventure novels of the type pioneered by C.S. Forester, Patrick O’Brian, and America’s very own James Fenimore Cooper.  I had enormous fun writing the series, and intended a 10-book series— of which I managed five before the market for historical fiction collapsed in April of 1983.  (Trauma seared the date into my memory.)

Of the five books that saw print, Brig of War is probably the best.  (Feel free to read an essay I wrote about the book after its re-release as an ebook.)
