I am off to Conzilla, Westercon 59, in lovely San Diego, which will be running July 1-4.
The committee has done me the kindness of making me the Guest of Honor. Bob Eggleton, Bobby Armbruster, and Kevin J Anderson are the other guests.
It should be fun. I am participating in an Iron Chef competition, among other events too numerous to mention here.
Stop by if you’re in the neighborhood. We’ll chat.
Having just returned from Conzilla = 59th Westercon, allow me to say what a superb job Walter John Williams did as Guest of Honor. He was cheerful, intelligent, interactive, omnipresent, autographing, and made a great batch of margueritas at the party in which copies of his marvelous Dread Empire’s Fall trilogy were dispensed.

I was also thrifty, clean, brave and reverent. [glyph of deadpan]
Thanks to Jonathan, and to Jim Briggs, Sandra Childress, Tim and Serena Powers, Kevin J and Rebecca M Anderson, bandit, Smoke, Kevin Murphy, and the many others who made Conzilla such a memorable experience.
And while I’m thanking people, I should give a special shout-out to my former Clarion student Traci Castleberry, who very kindly donated all of Wednesday to driving Kathy and me about Coronado Island and San Diego Harbor, where among other things we saw HMS Surprise, from the movie Master and Commander, and clambered about in a Russian submarine, which featured perfectly round hatches in the bulkheads, unlike the oblong ones in Western subs, which made going through them more onorous than strictly necessary.
Awww. . .told you, I was happy to play tour guide, and you and Kathy were fun to hang out with. I’ve got a few pics for you I’ve been meaning to send. Did you ever find out why crabs blew bubbles?
Saw you there and enjoyed the con – and your reading and interview. Sorry I missed Margaritaville (sheer exhaustion Sunday night).
It was our pleasure to host such wonderful guests!
Jim Briggs, Chairman
Conzilla, the 59th Westercon
