Struggle

by wjw on June 29, 2016

I’m fully engaged in trying to finish a novel, while also preparing for this year’s Taos Toolbox, so I’ve not been posting much here.

I recently came across a quote from Vladimir Nabokov: “In a first-rate work of fiction the real clash is not between the characters but between the author and the world.”

I’m inclined to agree with him, but what do you think?

If you’re not posting because you’re finishing a novel that sounds like a worthwhile trade-off to me!

The Nabokov quote is interesting and I can see how life could interfere with writing and writing interfere with life, but I think that happens to all of us when we’re under a deadline. In my case, it’s April 15th every year; doing other people’s tax returns really cuts into the rest of my life. Cuts into my reading time way too much.
