It’s Tipu’s Tiger, a wooden automaton and musical instrument.

A tiger eating a British soldier, commissioned by the Indian ruler Tippoo Sahib, who sided with the French during the Revolutionary era.
Why that’s Tipu’s Tiger, owned by the Sultan of Mysore. I recognize it from one of Bernard Cornwell’s “Sharpe’s Rifles” books where it was used as part of a plot point.
