Implied Spaces

July 31, 2006

Ahem. Big announcement here. I have sold the new novel, Implied Spaces, for, umm, “the largest advance ever offered by Night Shade Books.” There. I think I said that right.

Log of the Eclipse (10) (All Over Again)

July 30, 2006

I’m reloading this installment of the Turkish trip because I found that one of the links— in fact the most crucial link— wasn’t working. So now, when you click to look at the Neolithic goddess, you’ll actually get a picture of the Neolithic goddess described in the text, and not something else. Frankly, you’ll just […]

Them!

July 27, 2006

You know, giant insects never really scared me. What scares me is lots of little insects. This brings me to this article from a Montgomery paper describing the giant yellowjacket nests sprouting up throughout the South, so big they swallow cars and furniture. ‘The largest nest Ray has inspected this year filled the interior of […]

Skunk Works

July 26, 2006

Lockheed’s legendary Skunk Works, which created such aircraft as the U-2, the SR-71, and the F-117 Stealth Fighter, has created yet another masterpiece. According to this article in New Scientist Tech, Lockheed-Martin’s new unmanned stealth vehicle Polecat was created largely with a CAD hooked up to a 3D printer— aka “3D rapid prototyping.” Nice hack! It’s not like any of us have any work […]

Log of the Eclipse (9)

July 12, 2006

Trip Diary: April 1, 2006 Over and Under Cappadocia With the Whirling Dervishes When we checked into our hotel, we noticed that our room was on the same floor as the Presidential Suite. Heh, we thought, like some president is going to stay here! Next day there were two well-suited bodyguards sitting in armchairs outside […]

Commandments?

July 11, 2006

The Video Fairy has been good to me this week. Here’s a wonderful video in which Stephen Colbert interviews Georgia Congressman Lynn Westmoreland, who has sponsored a bill requiring the Ten Commandments to be posted in the US House and Senate. Watch the congressman sweat as Colbert asks him to name the commandments to which […]
